Therapeutic Massage

APPOINTMENT

Canine massage is the science and art of stimulating the muscles in order to improve a dog’s circulation, release toxins, decrease muscle spasms, and increase overall joint range of motion. It is a science because one needs to have a good understanding of canine anatomy in order to properly navigate and detect where the dog’s problems lie. The skilled practitioner then decides which techniques to use based on these problems. The art is important because without the proper touch and communication skills, a dog will not respond to the practitioner.

Massage therapy works synergistically with other therapies such as laser therapy, hydrotherapy, and therapeutic exercises.

The benefits include:

  • Increased circulation
  • Decreased pain and muscle spasms
  • Reduces post-surgical tissue adhesions and swelling
  • Improved joint range of motion
  • Improved skin and coat by bringing oils to the surface
  • Elimination of toxins and metabolic waste
  • Reduced anxiety
  • Canine athletes – warms muscles for competition, decreases risk of injury and improves post-event recovery time.

Conditions treated include:

  • Arthritis
  • Post-orthopedic and neurological surgeries
  • Soft tissue injuries
  • Canine athletes
  • Anxious dogs
